Sending video over the internet usually means paying licenses to a patent pool, or depending entirely on one graphics-card maker’s chip. NEXUS built its own compression technology from scratch.

Good questions.
Do I need an account?
Not on your own network or private server. Anyone who opens NEXUS on the same Wi-Fi or wired network gets voice, chat and screen sharing straight away, with no account and nothing to configure. Your friends don’t need an account either, as long as you have a public IP and can open ports.
What does it cost?
Nothing. NEXUS works completely for free: chat, voice, screen sharing, streaming and your own private servers. Memberships are optional, pay-what-you-want from $1 a month, and exist to support the project. As a thank-you they add extras, and anything you pay above your tier comes back as Nexus Coins.
Can my community host its own server without a public IP?
Yes. A member can run the server from their own PC, and NEXUS’s built-in tunnel makes it reachable without a public IP or any router setup. If you’d rather not host anything, NEXUS can host the server for you.
How do creators get paid on the marketplace?
Creators keep 80% of every sale, including everything bought with Nexus Coins, paid out through PayPal. The remaining 20% goes toward keeping the infrastructure running.
Can I download it now?
Yes. Tap your platform’s icon at the top of this page: Windows or Android. The Linux version is on the way.
On Windows you get a small installer (NexusSetup.exe) that downloads and installs the latest version. If you get a .zip instead, unzip it into any folder and open lannexus.exe. From then on, NEXUS updates itself. NEXUS is new and its files aren’t digitally signed yet, so Windows may warn you the first time (“Windows protected your PC”): choose More info → Run anyway. If your PC has Smart App Control turned on, Windows won’t open it until the signed version is out.
On Android you need Android 8.0 or later, 64-bit (ARM). Android may ask you to allow installing from your browser.
Which platforms are planned?
Windows, Linux and Android at release. Availability on Apple devices is on the roadmap.
So how many features does this app have?
- VOICE AND TEXT CHAT
- Voice channels, text channels and DMs with replies, pins and edits. On your own network it works with no account at all.
- FILE SHARING
- Send photos and files straight into any chat or DM, without uploading them somewhere else first.
- VIRUS SCAN WITH VIRUSTOTAL
- Add your own free VirusTotal API key and NEXUS checks the files you send and receive in DMs. Your key stays on your device: our servers never see it.
- TWO-STEP VERIFICATION (2FA)
- Protect your account with a code from Google Authenticator or any authenticator app, with recovery codes in case you lose your phone.
- DEDICATED SERVERS
- Run an always-on server on your own PC with the free NEXUS Dedicated Server app. It’s all yours, and linking it to your account lists it in the Server Browser.
- NEXUS ZERO
- Our own low-latency streaming for screen sharing and remote play: share a window or your whole screen, and friends can ask for control or join your game as a controller.
- NEXUS BRIDGE
- A built-in VPN tunnel: it creates a private virtual network for your server and publishes it without a public IP or opening ports. Free for you + 3 friends.
- CALLS
- Call a friend, or a group of up to 10, from any DM, with screen sharing and remote play. End-to-end encrypted, through NEXUS or direct.

Built to grow without costs spiking.
Most apps like this need one huge, expensive data center from day one. NEXUS is split into small, specialized pieces, so cost only grows where growth is actually happening.
One big, expensive server. Cost grows with every single user, everywhere, all at once.
A small core, plus regional relays. Cost grows only with real streaming traffic, region by region.
Three kinds of servers, three jobs.
The Brain
Accounts, chat history and the marketplace catalog. There’s one per NEXUS, modest in size, and it barely grows with the community.
The Muscle
Carries the actual video and voice traffic, placed close to users in each region. This is what NEXUS adds more of as it grows.
Protection
An isolated machine that checks what members upload, in a sealed-off place. Images are rebuilt from scratch before they’re sent on, in case the original came infected.
Growing means adding more Muscle servers, not rebuilding the Brain.
